There are many reasons why you should never use free dating sites if you’re looking for someone to have a relationship with. Naming all of them would be impossible, but I’ll take a moment to share a few with you, that I believe are particularly important for your well being and safety.

Before you read through them, however, you should know that although the things we’ll discuss might seem scary, the reason I tell you about them is so that you can make an informed decision about which dating sites to use.

Having said that, let’s talk about…

1. Sexual predators.

It is estimated that over 40,000,000 Americans use dating portals regularly, and great deal of them opt for the free option.

Why? Because there are literally dozens of free dating services available.

The problem with that is, however, that sexual predators don’t use paid sites, either. Why should they, really? There’s plenty of options to take advantage of without ever spending a penny.

Over 25% of all rapists in the United States use dating sites to find, and get in touch with their victims. In fact, it’s probably even worse now, as that statistic is based on research done quite a while ago, when the internet wasn’t nearly as popular as it is today.

If you use a paid dating service, what you do is put in an extra layer of protection between you and a potential sexual predator.

This, obviously, doesn’t mean that you don’t have to be careful. Quite the opposite, actually. You still need to follow the standard safety protocol (i.e.: never share personal information in your profile, keep in mind that whatever you publish is permanent, and that pretty much anyone has access to the info once it’s up on the web.

You ARE, however, much safer spending a little money to access the site (apart from the fact that a predator wouldn’t want to spend money there, those sites are usually protected better, and much harder to hack, as the people who manage them have the capital needed to keep everyone safe.

2. Data security.

You may or may not know this, but very few free online dating websites use secure to transfer data where it needs to be.

Of course, the ones that do, are normally those that you pay for, such as OKCupid.com, AdoneNamoro.com, GirlsDateForFree.com or DateTheUK.com just to name a few.

When you use those services, any data you provide gets encrypted before it’s sent out, so that it’s virtually impossible to decipher it, thus keeping everything safe to use.

3. Defamation.

This can happen to anyone.

You’re at a dating portal, just having a casual conversation with someone who you just met. You’ve never seen them in person, and in essence, you don’t know who they are.

The conversation is going great, so you begin sharing personal information, such as your daily schedule, your dietary habits or even your sexual practices.

After you talk, you decide you’re going to meet up at a nearby coffee shop, and you log out.

The truth is, however, that many of the free sites will store your entire conversation, simply because they don’t have an efficient system in place to remove it.

Since the conversation is stored, any one can go out, take a look at what you talked about, use a few simple tools and share the conversation with the whole world.

Before you know it, your great reputation is gone… all because of a casual chit chat.

So, what should you do to protect yourself?

1. Stick to paid dating sites.

The people who run them know what they’re doing, and they have many more resources and means to make sure that you’re safe and secure when you use their portal.

2. Be sure the site uses a secure server.

You’ll be able to spot that by seeing HTTPS as opposed to the good ‘ol HTTP in your address bar. When you see the S, you know that no one other than you and the website administrators can access your sensitive data.

3. Make sure that the site administrators are upfront with you.

They should tell you who has access to the data, and also it needs to have tools in place where your data is only visible to the people who you want to see it.

This way, you’ll be able to safe guard your data with ease.

So, there you go.

The Internet can be a dangerous place, especially when you don’t know how to protect yourself.

The whole point of dating, whether offline or online is to meet new people, so staying safe as you search has to be a priority.

Paid dating sites provide much more security than any free dating service available out there. Do yourself a favor, and don’t risk it. Spend a few dollars each month and have a peace of mind for the rest of your life.

Have fun dating and be safe!
